Recurring Rides Hosted by WMCR

MONDAY NIGHT TRAINING RIDE

The first "official" Monday Night Ride will be May 4th, starting at 6:00 from Breakaway Bicycles. The Monday Night Rides from Breakaway have been a long standing tradition. The idea of these rides is to bring together riders of different ability and build relationships in the cycling community. Racers generally view Monday as a recovery day and recreational cyclists look at it as a way to sharpen their group riding skills. We break the group down to manageable group numbers by ability. This results in many rides having three groups on the road. This is an important way to attract new members. Let's keep encouraging new riders.

TUESDAY NIGHT TIME TRIALS

The West Michigan Coast Riders will be organizing 20 K (about 12.5 miles) time trials on May 5 & 19, June 2 & 16, July 7 & 21, and August 4 & 18.

The first rider starts promptly at 7:00pm. Please make sure you sign up at least 10 minutes prior to 7:00pm. There is no cost to club members. There will be three time trials prior to the Duck Lake 40k time trial.

What is a time trial?

A time trial is an event in which a cyclist rides a pre-determined course by themselves while being timed. Time trials work on a riders strength and endurance and is a great way to determine a rider’s level of fitness throughout the year. Each cyclist is given his or her time so they can compare that to future or past rides. The time trial is held on an out and back course which is open to traffic. There are no stop signs on the course. Riders must obey rules of the road and should be alert to other vehicles.

Where is the time trial course?

The West Michigan Coast Riders organize our time trials on Michillinda Road which runs east/west between North Muskegon and Whitehall. The start is near the corner of Michillinda Road and Senic Drive just south of Whitehall.

Directions to the time trial course: Take US 31 to Whitelake Drive exit. Go west about ½ mile to Whitehall Rd. Turn left on Whitehall Rd and go 2 miles to Michillinda Rd. Turn right on Michillinda Rd and go about 6.5 miles to the start. There is a small parking lot at the corner of Lakeshore Drive and Michillinda Rd.

WOMEN'S RIDE

Starting Wednesday May 6th and every Wednesday thru August a women's ride will meet at Mullaly Park.

Directions to the Women's Ride: Take Whitehall Rd. to Giles Rd. Go west on Giles to Horton. Go North on Horton to Mullally Park.

This ride is geared for all types of riders: beginners on up. This is a great way to learn the "rules of the road" from some very experienced and helpful women riders of the West Michigan Coast Riders.
